Nine people charged with drugs offences following serious and organised crime warrants in Newport...

Nine people – seven men and two women - were charged with drugs offences following a series of arrests in the city on Thursday.

The arrests followed a series of co-ordinated raids on properties in the Maindee and Alway areas of Newport led by Gwent Police and Tarian, the southern Wales regional organised crime unit.

Detective Chief Inspector Julian Bull from Tarian said: “This was a jointly co-ordinated approach to tackling serious and organised crime in the region between Tarian Regional Organised Crime Unit and our partners in Gwent police.

“Tarian ROCU focusses its assets on the most serious organised crime that occurs both across the southern Wales region and nationally.”

The nine people, all from Newport, appeared in Court last Saturday charged with conspiracy to supply class A drugs and they have all been remanded to prison pending further court dates.

Three other men from Newport, aged 23, 26 and 33 have be released under investigation.
